Beyond Tomorrow is based on a 1976 conference commemorating The Rockefeller University's seventy-fifth anniversary, whose aim was to consider some of the challenges facing the biomedical community. The dramatic results of research in the life sciences over the previous thirty years had brought scientists to the verge of understanding many of the diseases of man that had, until then, resisted all efforts toward prevention, treatment, or cure. Investigators in the biomedical sciences were poised to use the tools that had been developed over those years to make great contributions to research as well as to medical education and public health.
