This book contains transcripts of the lectures given at the 45th annual symposium on sensory transduction, which was held in September, 1991, at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, under the auspices of the Society of General Physiologists. During an exciting time in sensory transduction, the Symposium attempted to provide a forum in which general principles, or at least common themes, could become more apparent.
